New gallery opens

The Art Yard has moved to 19-20 Upper High Street, Cradley Heath, B64 5HX.

We opened the new gallery on the site of the former John Jones shoe shop.

Respected nationally for high quality hand made shoes the premises were built in the 1820's and was established as a shoe manufacturers in 1877. Group chairman, Warren McCabe-Smith said, "it's taken over 3 months of hard work by group members to convert the building. Much of the internal structure has require remedial work and converting to art spaces into a gallery with art studios and classroom areas has been a mammoth task."

Martyn Harris, group secretary added, "We've all stuck to the task of upgrading the internal areas while at the same time changing to look of the building from the outside to enhance its kerbside appeal. We have resident artist who can offer a wide range of artistic skills, experiences and practices."

Harry Bloomer, group treasurer said that the work necessary to convert the building couldn't have been done without the help of skilled builders and crafts people. "The building has been totally transformed inside and out. We are sure that visitors will enjoy time spent in the gallery."

The relaunch of The Art Yard took place on Monday, September 26th.

The Art Yard has also been given new branding to celebrate the move to bigger premises.

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
