DYING MATTERS

A Solo Exhibition to raise awareness of Dying Mastters by The Mary Stevens Hospice

For 1x week only from 11th to 16th September 2023.

‘Raising Dying Matters Awareness’

This exhibition of artwork and poetry promises to be a most powerful and moving solo exhibition, created by local people about themes centred around personal grief and shared experiences of loss along their bereavement journeys.

Earlier in the year The Mary Stevens Hospice, Oldswinford entered discussions with The Art Yard team about local people creating artworks and poetry about their personal experiences to do with the difficult subject of dying. The idea was to help raise public awareness of these difficult and often unspoken issues as part of Dying Matters Awareness week taking place in May 2023.

The Art Yard agreed to host the solo exhibition at a time when the hospice felt it most appropriate to do so and to make the artworks and poetry accessible to the wider Midlands community in the front ground floor gallery and window in order to share the experiences and personal journeys of those taking part. For these and many other reasons the exhibition may prove to be an emotional rollercoaster for visitors to the gallery.

The Art Yard team wishes to acknowledge the personal contributions made by everyone who took part in or supported The Mary Stevens Hospice project by raising awareness of Dying Matters.

Midland Film and Art

Midland Film and Art is a membership club where people can enjoy screenings of films or view artwork and crafts that would otherwise not be shown in mainstream cinemas or exhibitions, or be available locally. These shows usually have an educational aim, introducing new audiences to different audiovisual works through screening and display, encouraging participation in arts and crafts. A common feature that may characterize a Midland Film and Art meeting is that they either begin with an introduction to the audience and/or end with the promotion of a discussion about the film/art, where assistants, organizers and sometimes the filmmakers/artists themselves, exchange their views.
