Filming With A Quadcopter

Midland Film and Art members have got together with local quadcopter enthusiast and operator Ian Gill to record aerial footage about St Peter’s churchyard, Cradley, as part of a Shared Heritage Lottery funded project.

Until one year ago the churchyard was completely overgrown with weeds and brambles. Now, following extensive clearance work in the churchyard by Community Pay-Back teams, mapping of graves and memorials has begun as part of a MFAA programme of putting together a Cradley Memorials Heritage Trail that will enable the community to explore in detail a total of 16 memorial sites in the Cradley area.

Club Treasurer Warren McCabe-Smith was on hand to direct aerial operations when filming began today. Warren commented, “Our members have been planning to arrange filming in the churchyard since the project began in December and this was only made possible by the teams who cleared away lower branches along the Avenue of Remembrance to enable access for the quadcopter.”

Ian Gill said, “It’s been a great experience working with the heritage project volunteers. We planned the film shoot together during the winter months and waited until the first days of spring to make the most of the change in weather conditions and good daylight. We are delighted by the results.”

MFAA has been busy uploading short audio stories to the stpeterscradley.org website and will be producing a heritage trail map and short video so that people can access information on-line.
